Bush Administration Annexes Internet

In an extraordinary statement by the US government which has sent shockwaves around the internet world, the US Department of Commerce (DoC) has made it clear it intends to retain control of the internet's root servers indefinitely. It was due to relinquish that control in September 2006, when its contract with overseeing body ICANN ended.

This is particularly relevant at the moment as a UN review of internet governance will report later this year and indications are that the team is considering handing over elements of internet control to a UN body, possibly the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

WagNews: So we are supposed to be relieved when the U.N. takes over the Net instead, eh?

The amount of misinfo and outrageous conspiracy specualition on the internet is helping to keep the capitalist "powers that be" in positions of absolute rule, and is serving as a distraction that is keeping the masses isolated from group action. Remember, the real enemy is a nebulous concept, not a group of real flesh and blood gangsters out to line their pockets while spilling the blood of countless thousands. I think "I like watch tv" made some trenchant points in previous posts in which he pointed out the absurdity of recent conspiracy theories regarding the WTC and pentagon attacks. Of course, his naive trust in such right wing bastions like Fox NoOze, is just one example of the power of capitalist propaganda to control the masses, but once the UN seizes control of the internet and other sources of news information, it will be like heaven on earth.
