In 20 Days 500 Killed in Iraq, 41 US Forces

At least 491 people have been reported killed by insurgents since the US puppet Iraqi government was announced April 28. They include 447 Iraqi civilians and security force members, 41 U.S. military personnel, 1 British soldier and 2 U.S. contract workers.

April 28 — 10: 5 Iraqis, 5 U.S. soldiers.
April 29 — 52: 47 Iraqis, 5 U.S. soldiers.
April 30 — 18: 17 Iraqis, 1 U.S. soldier.
May 1 — 37: 36 Iraqis, 1 U.S. soldier.
May 2 — 25: 23 Iraqis, 1 U.S. soldier, 1 British soldier.
May 3 — 10: 8 Iraqis, 2 U.S. soldiers.
May 4 — 70: all Iraqis.
May 5 — 26: all Iraqis.
May 6 — 25: all Iraqis.
May 7 — 29: 22 Iraqis, 2 U.S. contractors, 4 U.S. Marines, 1 U.S. sailor.
May 8 — 12: 6 Iraqis, 4 U.S. soldiers, 2 U.S. Marines.
May 9 — 9: 5 Iraqis, 4 U.S. Marines.
May 10 — 9: all Iraqis.
May 11 — 76: 69 Iraqis, 6 U.S. Marines, 1 U.S. soldier.
May 12 — 24: 21 Iraqis, 3 U.S. soldiers.
May 13 — 10: 9 Iraqis, 1 U.S. soldier.
May 14 — 13: all Iraqis.
May 15 — 12: all Iraqis.
May 16 — 24: all Iraqis.

An additional 66 bodies, many blindfolded and bound, have been found at several sites since May 6; the circumstances and timing of their deaths has not been determined. The U.S. military and Iraqi security forces reported an estimated 183 insurgent deaths, including some 125 in Operation Matador in western Iraq. The U.S. military also acknowledged accidentally killing seven Iraqi civilians.
