Blair Defector Slams 'Politics of Fear'

"UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has been accused by a Labour party defector of 'stomach-turning lies.'

The comments marked the embarrassing defection of a veteran left-winger from Blair's Labour Party to the anti-war Liberal Democrats. Brian Sedgemore said Labour no longer represented liberal Britain.

'I urge everyone from the center and left of British politics to give Blair a bloody nose at the general election and vote for the Liberal Democrats,' he told a news conference.

'The stomach-turning lies on Iraq were followed by the attempt to use the politics of fear to drive through parliament a deeply authoritarian set of law and order measures.'"
